Here is a brief list of air freight. FAR Part 91 vs FAR Part 135 For most business jets, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provides two Narrow-Body Airliners for charter sets of rules under which you can operate. FAR Part 91 is for private operations only. This would be the case if you or your company purchased an aircraft for personal or company business. You can operate those flights Midsize Private Jets under the relatively relaxed rules of FAR Part 91. However, you are not allowed to operate the aircraft for profit or private jet charter compensation. Another way of saying it is the operation of the aircraft is incidental to your business. Your business is not operating the aircraft.
On the other hand, you could fly the aircraft under FAR Part 135. This would allow you to operate as a private aircraft when transporting company officials or the owner, and you could fly the aircraft as an air taxi and charge the general public a Specialists for Jet Charter fee to use your aircraft. Of course the requirements that you must meet to operate a jet as an air taxi operator are much more strict than those for private operations. This is because the FAA is protecting the flying public that may use your service. A few of these additional requirements are listed here: Must hold a FAA Air Carrier Certificate Must have a FAA approved drug program for crew business jet charter members Must have a FAA approved training program for crew members Must have a FAA approved maintenance program for each aircraft Must complete proving-runs for each type of jet This is only a basic list. As you can see, obtaining a FAR Part 135 certificate is a major endeavor that often takes months or years to complete.
